Let me just start this by saying that I feel dirty. Very, very dirty. And that I almost had to leave a few times, not only because I was so mad, but because I was so upset I thought I was going to be sick.
I don’t know any other way to do this than to just go down my notes, and because of this it’s going to be more disjointed than I would like. Just stick with me. I hope I can convey this well because I feel that it really needs to be. I’ve tried to keep my comments in parentheses, just to keep everything straight.
First of all, she comes out, the Republicans clap, the Democrats do nothing. She steps up to the podium, things quiet down, and someone yells “BITCH!” at the top of their lungs. Amazing.
Her first jab of the evening was at Bill Clinton. The highlight of this first jab was her saying that his recently opened Presidential Library is the first one to have an “Adults Only” section and how that reflects onto his character. She also goes on to say that Clinton won on a technically, when you factor in how many votes Peroe took up. (I don’t think we need to be talking about technicalities here, do we?)
Her first comment about gay marriage was about how we shouldn’t “force” something onto the American people that only 10%-20% of the people approve. (Who’s forcing what on who? By banning gay marriage, aren’t we “forcing” something on the people?)
And then she digs into the Democrats. How they couldn’t even win with Hollywood and the media on their side, etc. etc. Oh yeah, and it’s not the Conservatives that are nuts, it’s the Liberals. (Right.) And the Democrats are never going to see the White House again. (Ah ha ha ha.) She said the Democrats must start over, taking a more “middle of the road” approach (yeah, let’s talk about that middle road), but they really can’t do that with Ted Kennedy around, because when was the last time he stayed on the road period? And not only should we silence the Liberals, let’s just go ahead and oppress them.
Now, let’s talk about abortion. (I think I blocked most of this out because this makes me more upset than everything else.)
She mentions The Daily Show and how since they only get a few 100,000 viewers, no one really cares about that crap. However, the Conservative shows get many more viewers, proving that more people care about their views.
She went on to call CBS the “fake news” (okay, I’ll almost give her that one), and said that Nixon can now rest in peace, because they finally got Dan Rather.
According to Ms. Coulter, there needs to be more censorship; there can’t be enough yet, because Will & Grace is still on the air. Will & Grace is killing peoples’ morals and good ethics. We should use that as a form of torture in Guantanamo Bay.
The only thing Conservatives are trying to do is “reform Social Security and spread democracy.” (Just the good stuff. Right.)
It only took Republicans three years to prove the Democrats wrong about the Iraqi war; it’s taking less and less time to prove the Democrats wrong, so there must be a God, contrary to Liberal belief! (Insert unrest among the crowd here; while we are leaning to the left, we are still a very religious, Christian school.)
She goes on to talk about generalizations, saying that Republicans are generalized as being those who protect the country, and Democrats, the enemies. She doesn’t mind that generalization, just as she doesn’t mind the generalization that it’s “generally warmer in the summer than in the winter,” and that it’s “generally not a good idea to play in traffic.”
She jumps back to Clinton, calling him “draft dodging” and “weed smoking.” (Let’s not throw stones here, lady. This is when someone in the audience laughs hysterically to mock the Conservatives who are chucking at her comments. She responds with “Clever retort! You Liberals are smart!”)
All Democrats do is naysay our country’s right to defend ourselves and protect ourselves from evil. The closest thing Liberals know to evil is someone wearing a fur coat.
Back to the war – how can it not be a success when we won it in 17 days?
Democrats whine and whine about how long it’s taking to work out all the bugs in Iraqi, while they gave Stalin 36 years to work out Communism. The Republicans just need a chance.
She says that the Iraqis have hope for the future, and the Liberals don’t. I’m just going to add here that she milked the elections for all they were worth.
She makes a jab at Kofi Annan, and his comment that the war in Iraq is “illegal.” He shouldn’t be calling things “illegal” while he son is out there doing “illegal” things himself.
Her closing remark was: “Liberals hit us hard, and we must hit back hard.”
And now begins the Q&A session. Also begins her snarky comments.
Someone asked what her definition of “Liberalism” is. After a long period of beating around the bush and shouts of “Answer the question!” (which became a theme of the second half), she said Liberalism = Communism.
Another question passes, and someone yells “No more bullshit!” and walks out.
She really liked to say “Get to the question!” over and over and over…unless you were Republican. Then you could dawdle as long as you wanted.
One of the Muslim students asked her if she believed all Muslims were terrorists, and that if she thought he was a killer. She responded with some irrelevant answer, and as the student walked away in frustration, she said “I’ll be sure to give your name to John Ashcroft.” After that comment about a quarter of the people walked out. I wanted to, as I knew the poor guy, but I had to stick around and let my blood boil some more.
Someone asked if it would be possible to reverse Roe vs. Wade in the next four years, and Ms. Coulter responded by saying some of the old judges needed to retire so they could replace them with more capable people. Then we will be able to overturn it and make the world a better place (okay, she didn’t say that, but something very similar to it).
She mentioned it is “not okay to pull the plug.” More on this later.
Someone asked why she came to a liberal college in a liberal town. She really avoided this question, by first saying that when she was in college she was able to sit through Liberal professors’ lectures without shouts and booing (which there was a lot of). She said we should all be let down by the education we’re receiving at this liberal campus. She then answered the question by saying that she wants to “change the world and make it a better place.” The student that asked the question then asked the audience if anyone there tonight had changed their opinion, and there was silence followed by a few Republicans clapping to make it look better. Ms. Coulter responds by saying “Bush still won, didn’t he?”
My favorite question was a girl who asked Ms. Coulter if she was a religious person. She said yes. The student then said “Well then, I’ll be praying for you,” and walked away. It was beautiful. Ms. Coulter responded by saying “Yes, I really think I need the help of Gaia and Mother Earth reaching out her arms to me.”
Someone asked if she thought God loves her belittling people and putting them down for different beliefs. She said that God loves babies in wombs and Terri Schivao.
Another question asked was whether or not she thought her discussing and speaking style was affective. She responded by saying “It seems to be working, it’s making me a lot of money.” (Wait…I thought she did this to make the world a better place…huh…)
Finally, one of the last questions asked was by a mother whose daughter was going to be entering college and what Ms. Coulter’s advice for her was. She said her advice was to join the College Republicans, because they are actually questioning authority and get a better education, as the Liberals are just ass-kissers and grade-grubbers. Oh yeah, and she’s going to want to meet some heterosexual guys.
I was in line to ask a question, but she stopped right before me. I was going to ask what she thought about the Republican Minnesota Representative that just came out of the closet.
All in all, there was a lot of belittling by Coulter, and quite a bit of shouting and vocal disagreement by the audience. Coulter even made fun of what people were wearing and the way they spoke.
I really believe the woman has no soul. But she wants to be controversial, and she does that very well. It’s just her thing, but it’s hard to accept that she can do that.
